CALANGUTE: The Villagers of Calangute stood in support of Valerian Fernandes and his family by carrying out a candle light march from Calangute Church to the Police station on Monday. The people are helping him in the fight for justice by standing by the family.
One can recall that a fight had triggered on October 24 at Cafe Nicobar shack at Calangute beach. In the incident a local, Valerian Fernandes was mercilessly attacked and threatened by two Congressman. Over 200 people participated in this candle light march carrying placards and finally gathered at the Calangute Police Station.
The ex-Calangute Sarpanch, Joseph Sequeira also spoke on the occasion stating that without no reason this boy was beaten up. “If a lady had to not intervene during the fight they would have killed him. I also thank the locals for gathering and demand action from the police and very serious non bailable sections should be applied,” said Joseph.
Another local, Premanand Divkar demanded for stern action to be initiated against the accused.
The locals of Calangute have also submitted a memorandum to the Calangute PI, Jivba Dalvi asking for action to be taken and charge sheet be filed wherein proper sections are implemented. They also sort for stern action against those who were involved in the attack and are now roaming in the open after seeking bail.
Speaking at the occasion Dalvi told the people gathered that an FIR has been registered and the accused involved in the case were arrested.
“The victim has been discharged from the hospital. We will see that a water tight case in prepared and the charge sheet is prepared as early as possible. I assure good investigation from my end as far as this case is concerned,” he said.
