MARGAO: Following the recent decision of the State government to charge locals for ‘public light duty’ in their monthly electricity bills, people living in village panchayats have demanded that the house tax they pay these panchayats be exempt from light tax. One such gram sabha that raised this issue was that of Dramapur-Sirlim in Salcete taluka, where locals pointed out that since they now must pay the Power Department for this light tax, the panchayat must stop charging them for the same.
