MARGAO: Hundreds of people visiting the South Goa District Police Headquarters to pay the fines levied on them through the Traffic Sentinel App, run the risk of getting another challan slapped on them as they park their vehicles in the ‘No Parking Zone’ just outside the police headquarters building.
On an average, everyday around 250 people pay the fines and the police personnel are often forced to remain in office even till 8 pm to clear the challans. People make a beeline at the payment counter as early as 8.30 am after dropping their children to school.
The number of people rushing to the headquarters has increased since notices started to be sent by Speed Post.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy SP) Prabodh Shirvoikar said “The whole system has caught up pace as notices are issued quickly now because the App has become very popular. People rush to pay the fines the moment they get the notice even though they can pay the fine within seven days of receipt of the notice and need not pay it on the day they receive the notice.”
However, the rush at the counter makes it difficult to even being able to walk through to the office of the Dy SP.
