PANJIM: A person attacking a medical practitioner, paramedic or doing damage to the medical institution might land in jail for three years or fined Rs 50,000, after the Bill tabled on Friday in the State Legislative Assembly is passed.
The bill also necessitates forming of a committee which will examine complaints of medical negligence.
The Goa Medicare Service Personnel and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss to property) Bill 2013 which was introduced in the assembly, reads: “whoever commits violence or abets or incites the commission of violence against medicare service personnel or causes damage or loss to the property of medicare service institution, shall upon conviction, be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years,
or with fine which may extend to Rs 50,000 or both.”
Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar who has tabled the bill has said that it has become necessary to provide protection against violence towards medicare service persons
and prevention of damage or loss to property of medicare institutions.
