Violent spade attack leaves two injured in Cuncolim, accused held

A dispute over money led to the assault of UP natives Anil Kumar and Ravi Shanker

MARGAO:  In a disturbing incident, two men were admitted to the South Goa District Hospital with severe injuries after being attacked with a sharp spade in Cuncolim. The  attacker has been arrested and is currently in police custody.

According to PSI Tejas Kumar Naik, Ravi Shanker, 28, and Anil Kumar Bhartiya, 32, both from Uttar Pradesh, presently residing at Sanvorcotto, Cuncolim, were hospitalised due to the injuries sustained in the attack. 

The police received a complaint from Ravi Shanker, alleging that at a rented room in Sanvorcotto, the accused Lal Chandra Bhartiya, 32, from Allahabad, assaulted Anil Kumar Bhartiya with a spade on his head. 

The attack reportedly stemmed from a dispute over the exchange of money between the accused and the victim.

During the altercation, when Ravi Shanker attempted to intervene and stop the attacker, Lal Chandra Bhartiya allegedly assaulted him as well with the same spade, causing injuries to his head.

 PSI Naik registered the offence under Sections 324 and 326 of the IPC. The police arrested Lal Chandra Bhartiya and recovered the spade used in the attack.
