South Goa Member of Parliament Viriato Fernandes has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its alleged agents of creating and circulating a fake tweet claiming that Dabolim Airport would be shut from the next day.
Fernandes alleged that the post was fabricated to mislead the public and create confusion regarding the future of the airport. He claimed that the circulation of the purported tweet was a reaction to what he described as efforts to expose an alleged “backdoor attempt” to shut down Dabolim Airport.
“Our fight in successfully exposing the BJP’s alleged attempt to close the Dabolim airport through backdoor has rattled them and made them come out with such fake and fictitious tweets,” Fernandes said.
Reiterating his stand, the MP asserted that he would not allow Dabolim Airport to be closed under any circumstances.
He further described the episode as the “handiwork” of what he termed the “Bharatiya Jhumla Party,” accusing the ruling party of promoting fake posts to divert attention from its alleged intentions.
The claims have intensified the ongoing political tussle over the future of Dabolim Airport, with both sides trading sharp allegations.
