The Health Minister Vishwajit Rane was caught on the wrong foot as two Opposition MLAs pointed out mistakes in the replies given to two of the questions tabled by them and the health minister was asked to give corrected answers.
Mapusa MLA Francis D’Souza had tabled a question the time frame by which the North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa will be inaugurated and reasons for long delay in starting district hospital.
While minister in his oral reply said, delay has been due to the fact that have not yet appointed consultant to finalise a private player to run the new and high –tech hospital professionally.
“We have moved for consultancy and want to run the hospital in professional manner”. He said further adding that he would be able to give the time frame by which hospital will be commissioned only on appointment of consultant even as Mapusa MLA supported by the Opposition Leader Manohar Parrikar insisted that he should spell out time frame by which new hospital will be made operational.
He further said, present set-up of Asilo hospital will not able to run the hospital professionally as there have been cases of doctors not reporting for duty. On reprimanded they apply for VRS, resign and go. However, the health minister in his written reply to a question on the time frame for commissioning said, “as soon as the hospital is fully equipped it would be inaugurated.”
Whereas his answer to the second question — reasons for the long delay in starting the North Goa District Hospital, “the hospital could not be put to beneficial use till date as the normal supply of water to this institution is not yet stabilised and installation of equipment and machineries to operate pathology, surgery, ortho surgery, medicines are yet to be made.
The Mapusa MLA pointed out contradictions in the reply given and health minister admitted the mistake.
The government has spent Rs 49.30 lakh on maintenance of the district hospital till date.
Second question was raised by Canacona MLA Vijay Pai Khot and Pernem MLA Dayanand Sopte wherein they wanted to know whether the required medical waste disposal facilities are available with hospitals in Goa. However, answer given was only about government run hospitals.
Canacona MLA pointed out that they had sought info about all hospitals private included and the answer given was incomplete. The Minister assured the House that completed answer will be tabled in the next session of the assembly.
