PANJIM: Stung by the meeting of Sattarikar’s on the Alvara land issue, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday said he is with the people of Sattari and no land would be reverted to the government.
“We are with the people there is nobody who can take away land from the people. It is only that some vested interests are instigating them,” he said.
Blaming the Law Department for creating fear, he said, “There is a line in the Goa Land Revenue (Disposal of Government Lands) (Eighth Amendment) Rules, 2018 which says if money is not paid the land will be reverted to the government. There is no question of anybody reverting land back to the government.”
“Such lines in any Act should be withdrawn as it creates insecurity in the minds of the people,” he said adding that when Law Department drafts Acts it has to apply its mind while using the vocabulary as some people take advantage of this and create fear in the minds of the people.
He added that the government has understood that the people of Sattari are poor. “Government has come up with the policy to give rights to the people but all the documents are Portuguese and they are finding it difficult to get it translated in time. And also the cost that is involved is Rs 500 to Rs 1000 for translation per page, so people are finding the deadline set by the government not appropriate or sufficient”.
Rane said there cannot be an objective of raising revenue from these people.
