‘Visvas Ghat’ wins audience trust

Matias Mascarenhas’ tiatr ‘Visvas Ghat’ throws light on the mistrust that sometimes prevails among the members of the same family.

Matias Mascarenhas’ tiatr ‘Visvas Ghat’ throws light on the mistrust that sometimes prevails among the members of the same family. But that distrust gives birth with a specific cause.
‘Visvas Ghat’ revolves around advocate Agustin Colaco’s (Ashwin D’Souza) family. His son Freddy (Matias Mascarenhas) follows in his father’s profession. On return from Chennai, he is taken aback to see Sonia (Trupti Kerkar), his college mate, as his father’s secretary.
When his father desires to offer a birthday gift to his son, he initially shows reluctance. But later expresses his willingness to tie the knot with Sonia. After marriage, Sonia is out on a bold mission to take her revenge on her father-in-law. Advocate Colaco’s opponents, who would always face defeat at his hands, now enjoy victories after secret assistance from Sonia.
Why does Sonia revolt against her father-in-law despite her hubby expressing immense love towards her? What is the secret behind the strong opposition? Will Freddy be able to accept the hard truth? Who exposes whom and how? Finally, who bears the brunt of mistrust?
‘Visvas Ghat’, a tiatr from the first prize winner at the Kala Academy’s 40th tiatr competition last year, has substantial and intense content, besides sleek direction. The story follows smoothly, with applause from the audience after every vibrant scene.
Ashwin D’Souza stands tall in his commanding role of an advocate. Matias follows with a look of love and compassion in his eyes towards his wife. Sonia excels in her negative character. Salvador Silveira is supportive in his minor role.
Comic acts by Camil (Savio Vaz), Bostu (Nikita Lobo), Forsu (Jhonny Mascarenhas), Consao (Filu Mascarenhas) and Jaki Bostiao (Rosario Fernandes) interspersed in the main plot receive instant reaction from the audience.
Three different stage sets on one platform with the chandelier in the centre and the doorway to the garden, besides the quick flashbacks and timely acts need to be commended.
Songs by teen Linoshka Mascarenhas, Stacy, Salvador/Pascoal, Domnic Pereira/Nacy, Domnic/Johnny/
Ana Maria/Stacy and the concluding choral were welcomed by the spectators.
