PANJIM: Goa Forward Party leader Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate has finalised first time councillors Vithal Chopdekar and Asmita Kerkar for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP).
At a special meeting held on Sunday night at a stared hotel at Dona Paula, Monserrate announced the name of Chopdekar and Kerkar. The meeting was attended by all 15 corporators from the ruling panel.
The election for the post of mayor and deputy Mayor is scheduled on March 14.
Monserrate, the uncrowned king of CCP, confirmed the development saying “I have decided to give new corporators a chance to prove themselves.”
Current Mayor Surendra Furtado and his deputy Lata Parekh have been holding the posts since 2015.
On the other hand, BJP is yet to shortlist their candidates for the post even as the news of Pundalik Taut Desai as its mayoral candidate is making the rounds.
