On May 11, eight out of 12 directors of the Goa Dairy Board filed a no-confidence motion against him. During the vote on Friday, three signatories changed their stance and voted in his favour. Desai won by seven votes against five.
The chairman stated that the motion was filed due to a misunderstanding by the directors. Despite voting against him, he assured to take the other five directors into confidence.
The five who voted against Desai are Madhav Sahkari, Shivanand Pednekar, Shrikant Naik, Ulhas Sinari and Naresh Malik. Those who supported him include Danajay Desai, Vithoba Desai, Gurudas Parab, Rajendra Saval, Vijaykant Gaonkar, Baburao Desai and Madavrao Desai. Desai was elected the chairman unopposed on October 25, 2013.
Speaking to the media, he informed that Goa Dairy’s milk production was increasing due to the Kemdenu Scheme, which provided subsidies to ST and OBC communities and encouraged farmers to buy cows. The current sales reached 78,500 litres on average per month, which amounted to around 45 per cent of the Goan market’s consumption. The rest was provided by other brands.
He also said the government had provided Rs 2 subsidy on fodder to further encourage farmers and increase milk production. Besides, many other Goa Dairy products, like ice cream, enjoyed good sales.
