MARGAO: Former Goa Vikas Party Supremo who had been aspiring for the United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP) ticket, Nuvem MLA Francisco (Mickky) Pacheco, embraced Goa Su-Raj Party (GSRP) on Monday, his birthday, but didn’t formally join it. Mickky’s wife Viola is the new President of the party, while he is extending support to it.
Viola, was inducted as GSRP President by being handed over a letter and scroll of the party by outgoing President Matias Vaz. Mickky, Vaz, GSRP’s Floriano Lobo, Viola and others were present at the media briefing. “Viola is taking over the presidentship of party. She has already resigned from Goa Vikas Party (GVP). I am sure the party will take Goa to new heights,” Mickky said.
Speaking of his change he said, “I realised that within the UGDP executive there were several differences which kept them dilly dallying and getting merry with National parties. I don’t want this to happen,” Mickky said. “Did not expect these persons of UGDP supporting AAP,” Mickky said.
Viola has refused to get into electoral politics but said her husband will soon join GSRP. “I will contest from Nuvem and only Nuvem,” Mickky said.
GSRP’s Lobo said, “We have got a supreme executive and it will run the party. Mickky will support to run the party. Decisions will be taken after consultations with the executive.”
Vaz said, “Thirteen years ago, I had started the work of the party. I have read that Mickky wants to take Konkani and tiatr ahead. I am sure their joint efforts will help.”
Mickky began his political and electoral career with the UGDP after which he joined the BJP for a while, then went to the NCP and later joined Goa Vikas Party.
