MARGAO: Ahead of the Goa State Assembly elections on Monday, February 14, a lot of locals have taken to social media to upload videos of themselves urging others about voting or broadcasting advice on WhatsApp to their personal networks.
In short, many have decided to take such a step as they believe the importance of the elections cannot be understated and they are emphasising that the public has to come out and cast their vote. That aside, these messages convey their opinions where they speak about how ‘good’ candidates need to be backed or express their approval/resentment towards certain political parties.
These people, whose posts have in turn been shared by many, stress that this is the time when one can help in bringing the type of government they wish to. Finally, they speak about how they want their various areas of concerns and demands addressed by their future elected representative, be it in their individual constituency or pan Goa as a whole. Some of them have gone step higher and made music videos to encourage the public to vote and explained why their vote is so important.
Among a few of those who uploaded their videos was Vince Costa who posted, “Show up. Think. Ink. Our vote is the most precious and powerful tool in a democratic society. Let’s not misuse this opportunity or let our choices be tainted by other’s influence. This Monday, let’s vote with the awareness that who we choose affects the larger society. So it really is up to us to choose better”.
Another citizen Rashid Souza posted, “We will never save Goa by voting to defeat someone. We will only save Goa by voting to elect the best option available to represent us. Otherwise Political parties will never change”.
Konrad Rodrigues posted, “I would want to vote for a dignified person, non-criminal and non-corrupt person not just to represent me, but my entire village and constituency. As he/she becomes a reflection of our characters and our choices, we need to vote and elect educated, knowledgeable individuals who can plan development and prioritise the spending of the funds”.
Asha Vasudev Dessai posted, “Vote first and then go for your date with your Valentine. For the last five years you have been talking about what you want, what is not happening and what is needed for Goa. Don’t let this opportunity slip and follow your conscious and vote wisely. We are responsible for the government that is elected”.
