PANJIM, SEPT 24
The Bharatiya Janata Party today alleged that the new electoral rolls have been rigged to benefit the Congress-backed candidates in the forthcoming municipal elections, which in all likelihood will be held on October 31, when the term of all municipalities end.
Addressing a press conference in the party headquarters, Fatorda legislator Damodar Naik questioned the delay in formally announcing the dates for municipal elections.
“The dates for the Valpoi bye-elections have been finalized for October 18 but I do not know why the delay in announcing the dates for the municipal elections,” he said.
Naik also stated that the State government was yet to announce the increase in percentage of the reservations.
“We want to know about the 33 per cent reservation for women besides other reservations,” he said adding “the government is purposely delaying the announcement only to benefit the Congress candidates.”
He also said there were several complaints with the new election rolls as many names had been deleted.
“The rolls have been rigged to benefit the Congress-backed candidates,” he said.
