VP calls for changing mindset of ‘traditional’ roles of women

The Vice President appr-eciated and welcomed the trend where girls are overpowering boys in the educational field. He also urged boys not to lag behind.

“I was telling the Governor that you should feel happy if more girls are getting awards because that is the trend that needs to be encouraged. Women constitutes 50%of the population of India and they are not been given adequate encouragement because of the feeling of ‘what is the girl child going to do…she has to marry and take care of the house’,”  said VP Venkaiah Naidu, while referring to the Governor’s apprehension that boys are falling short, while girls have take over them in almost every filed.  He remarked that it has been the tradition of Indian culture and hence we see all the rivers named after women. “It has been our trad-ition and culture but in between we lost the track. Time has come again. I have always maintained that no nation can progress until its women are educated and given opportunities on par with man,” he said.  He added that ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Badao, Beti Pado’ should be the priority.
