PONDA: Following the deaths of three Electricity Department employees in the recent accident that occurred near the Borim Circle, the Borim Panchayat on Saturday reiterated its demand that the size of the above circle and that of another at Bythokhol be reduced.
Borim Deputy Sarpanch Sunil Sawkar said, “Since the past several years we have been demanding with the National Highways Authority of India officials that the sizes of the above circles be reduced. However, our demands have fallen on the deaf ears as they have failed to do same. Accidents occur when heavy vehicles proceeding from Margao to Ponda try to negotiate the Borim Circle. While in the case of Bythokhol Circle, the mishaps take place when vehicles move towards Margao from Ponda.
He said, “The seven-metre land has been acquired by the side of Top Cola to Sakhwar road. However, no tender has been issued for widening. We met the PWD Minister, but government claims it has no money. These circles are important and in public interest the government should pay attention.”
