VP to revoke permit if clearance withdrawn

BDO to forward panchayat’s rejection on convening ordinary gram sabha

MARGAO: In an interesting development, the Curtorim Village Panchayat has said it will have no hesitation to revoke the construction license issued to the controversial 85 room hotel project in the village if Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar withdraws the technical clearance to the project.
“The panchayat will also revoke the construction license issued to M/s Ira Exotica Pvt Limited  for their hotel project if the chief minister, who is also the town and country planning minister, withdraws the technical clearances”, Acting Sarpanch Simon Barretto told Herald when his attention was drawn to Parrikar’s statement on the hotel project.
Barretto made it clear that the panchayat had granted the construction license to the hotel project based on the technical clearances received from the Town and Country Planning department.  “Let the Chief Minister withdraw the technical clearance and the panchayat will revoke the construction license”, Barretto asserted, while reiterating that the panchayat had issued the construction license based on the technical clearance.
Former deputy sarpanch and panchayat member J Santano Rodrigues said the panchayat will have no option than to revoke he construction license if the town and country planning department withdraws the technical clearance for the project. 
“The panchayat can revoke the construction license to the hotel project if the technical clearance for the project is withdrawn by the government as stated by the chief minister in the media”, he said.
Meanwhile, Salcete Block Development officials have said the BDO M S Mardolkar will forward to the director of panchayats the Curtorim panchayat body’s decision rejecting his direction to convene an ordinary gram sabha on August 31.
While Mardolkar was not available for comment as he has applied for leave, sources in the BDO office said that Mardolkar is likely to forward the Curtorim panchayat resolution to the panchayat director for guidance on the matter.
