VPs want construction procedures simplified

MARGAO:  Sarpanchas of Salcete taluka on Friday demanded that the government outline the schemes to be implemented through the panchayats and called for the simplification of construction procedures taking the common man into account.
The Sarpanchas also demanded that the government beef up the manpower requirements at the Salcete Block Development office to cater to the needs of the 30 panchayat bodies.
At the meeting of the Salcete sarpanchas held at Davorlim panchayat hall on Friday, confusion prevailed amongst the participants over the social welfare schemes to be implemented by the panchayats. The Sarpanchas pointed out many a scheme though meant for people living at the grass root level are being implemented by various government departments, leaving them confused.
To remove the confusion and ensure that the benefits of the schemes reaches to the door steps of the common man, the sarpanchas have decided to ask the Panchayat Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to come out clear over the schemes to be implemented by the Panchayat bodies.
The Sarpanchas also discussed the issue concerning the procedure for construction licenses. They called for the simplification of the construction procedures to ensure that the common man is not put to hardships. Rachol Sarpanch Joseph Vaz said that the procedure needs to be simplified taking in mind certain communities including the Scheduled Tribes, staying in age old houses. “You have to simplify the procedure to ensure that such people are not put to hardships”, he said.
Vaz told the media after the meeting that the Sarpanchas have called for additional manpower at the Salcete BDO office to meet the growing requirements. 
“There’s a need to increase the number of BDOs, engineers in the BDO office, besides other staff. The existing staff cannot meet the requirements of the 30 village Panchayats”, he added.
