PANJIM: An assistant professor at Goa Medical College and Hospital has alleged that unidentified persons have scribbled objectionable and vulgar graffiti on the outer portion of her office door and wall.
The lady doctor has filed a complaint with the hospital authorities, Health Minister and Agassaim Police Station seeking immediate action to ensure women staff feel protected and are safe at the workplace.
The incident, she mentioned allegedly took place between Thursday evening and early Saturday morning. “Upon reporting to duty at 9am on Saturday, I found vulgar graffiti written with aerosol spray red paint on my door and outside the wall of my office, in the corridor of the department… It amounts to mental and sexual harassment at the workplace,” her complaint to the GMC authorities states.
She further approached the police station with a complaint and evidence seeking action against the persons involved. Agassaim police have registered an offence against unknown persons for defacement of public property and vulgar messages.
“We will be questioning faculty members in the wing and others related to the case. There is no arrest as yet. Investigations are on,” PI Santosh Desai said.
Speaking to Herald, the doctor alleged that the place of offence is not guarded by any security personnel. “Anyone can enter and go without being noticed. It is never guarded,” she said.
Sources said the complainant suspects a former medical student’s role, who incidentally is the son of a senior doctor, who is himself facing an inquiry in a case of sexual harassment.
