MARGAO: Margao-based Vidya Vikas Mandal’s Damodar College and Kare Law College are all set to chart new territory and emerge as formidable participants in their respective fields as the Mandal has supported these initiatives to ensure these institutions emerge as forces to reckon with on the national scene.
Addressing the media, VVM’s new Chairman Ganesh Daivajna said the Mandal has chalked out bold plans for the future, stating that augmentation and upgradation of physical infrastructure for all its institutions are the first items on the agenda of the new board of management.
“We have plans to have a separate building for the RMS Higher Secondary School. Plans are also afoot to acquire additional land for the purpose,” he said, adding that the management plans to restructure Damodar College as well.
Established in 1971 as a non-profit organisation by a few young professionals, the Mandal has within its voluminous fold, five outstanding institutions, two IGNOU study centres, around 5000 students and almost 350 personnel on its staff.
VVM vice-chairman Nitin Kunkolienkar said the huge success of Vidya Vikas Academy has encouraged the Mandal to think in terms of replicating this venture in North Goa as well, creating a chain of schools.
He said the Mandal would like to continue being a niche player in the area of training, but its ultimate vision for the institute is that it will become a full-fledged management institute with AICTE recognition, offering a wide range of management programmes, which will attract students from all over the country. “Modern economy is a knowledge-based economy. Education and skill development will be the key drivers of growth in the years to come. Thus the education system offers boundless opportunities for growth and expansion. Unfortunately, the sector is not receiving the attention and focus that it deserves from governments at various levels,” he said.
