Wagh happy with 27% OBC reservation

Mandrekar feels it’s still less, calls for re-survey

PANJIM: San Andre MLA Vishnu Wagh unanimously congratulated the Government for 27% reservation given to OBCs in the State. 
Art and Culture Minister Dayanand Mandrekar and Tivim MLA Kiran Khandolkar spoke in favour of the reservation with Khandolkar asking for a mechanism to check whether OBCs are really getting the quota while Mandrekar made an oblique reference that the 27 % was less and wanted a re-survey done.
The evening session of Goa Assembly made obituary references and passed congratulatory motions. The Governor’s speech, and various reports were also tabled and papers laid on the table.
The House condoled the deaths of  Vasantrao Subrai Joshi, former Mormugao MGP MLA of the Third Legislative Assembly of Goa, Daman and Diu who died on December28, 2013; former MGP MLA of Tivim and Pernem Jaisingrao Rane Sardessai, of the Second and the Third Goa, Daman and Diu Assembly, who died on February 20, 2014;  iconic President of South Africa & Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela who died on December, the 6, 2013; legendary harmonium maestro Pandit Purushottam Walawalkar, who died on January 14; veteran Freedom Fighters Gunlo Palkar January 11th. 
The deaths of freedom fighter Madhukar Acharya, former Advocate-General of Goa Vijay Nadkarni, eminent lingual singer Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri Manna Dey and actor Farooq Sheikh were also condoled.
The House also congratulated Dr Raghunath Mashelkar for being conferred the Padma Vibhushan, tennis ace Leander Paes for his Padma Bhushan and fashion designer Wendell Rodricks for his Padma Shri awards. 
“This House also congratulated Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and scientist Prof C N R Rao for being honoured with the Bharat Ratna awards and Team Goa (India) for winning a total of 92 medals at the various sporting events in athletics, table tennis, wushu, taekwondo, judo, volleyball, basketball and football at the Lusofonia Games 2014. 
Papers laid were in connection with the Goa Value Added Tax Act, 2005 and the Goa Entertainment Tax Act, 1964. Minister for Forest & Environment Alina Saldanha placed the Annual Report of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) for 2012– 2013 and the 15th Annual Report of the Goa Forest Development Corporation Ltd for 2011– 2012. 
Minister for Industries & Social Welfare Mahadev N Naik laid the Audit Report of Goa Khadi & Village Industries Board for 2008 – 2009 before the House.
