PANJIM: BJP St Andre MLA Vishnu Wagh will be elected as the Deputy Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly during the week-long winter session, commencing from January 11.
Speaking to Herald, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar confirmed that party has shortlisted the name of Wagh for the Deputy Speaker’s post. “During the recent meeting with Wagh, the decision was taken and he has agreed to the same,” he said.
The MLA was initially not in favour of holding the position.
Wagh will be elevated as Deputy Speaker, as the current deputy Speaker Anant Shet would be elected as the new Speaker of the State Assembly. With former speaker Rajendra Arlekar nominated as Cabinet Minister, the Speaker’s post is vacant since October, last year.
Arlekar is currently Minister for Panchayat, Environment and Forest.
