PORVORIM: Demanding a 27% reservation for the OBC community, St Andre MLA Vishnu Wagh hit out at the State government for failing to honour its promises and said he had little faith in assurances of the government.
He was speaking at the meeting organized by the Central Committee to offer guidance to the taluka and gram committees on the schemes of the State and Central governments available to OBC and to compile statistics of the members of the Bhandari Samaj in Goa.
“The government will take the decision regarding reservation by March 31, 2014, but I have no faith in the assurances of the government,” stated Wagh.
“BJP had assured the electorate that if party comes to power, then it will get rid off casinos from Mandovi River within three months. But the casinos still exist in the Mandovi River. What is the guarantee that BJP will not make a U-turn in regard to the 27% reservation,” asked Wagh.
“All the members of Bhandari Samaj should get united and fight for their right and demand reservation of 27% with immediate effect,” said Wagh.
He further said some BJP workers are demanding that the BJP state committee should take disciplinary action against him for criticizing government policies. “If the State committee has got guts, let them take disciplinary action against me and then I will show my strength,” warned Wagh.
Bhandari Samaj President Anil Hoble appealed the members to continue their fight for 27% reservation till the objective is achieved.
On the occasion, Laximan Povlekar and Jay Naik were felicitated with shawl, memento and sriphal.
Bhandari Samaj Secretary Upendra Gaonker welcomed the gathering, while Vaman Khandeparker proposed the vote of thanks.
