The Congress High Command has asked the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) to adopt a wait and watch policy following the threat by alliance partner the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) to withdraw support to the government.
The NCP executive committee meeting held recently resolved to withdraw support if the Digambar Kamat-led government failed to respect its (NCP’s) directives to drop two of party ministers – Jose Philip and Nilkanth Halarnkar.
The Congress had turned down the orders after the Churchill-led group of 10, which consisted of five ministers, protested against plans to induct Mickky into the Cabinet.
Following the NCP’s executive meeting, the GPCC President Subash Shirodkar rushed to Delhi wherein he met the political secretary to AICC President Sonia Gandhi and Congress General Secretary B K Hariprasad on Wednesday.
“Yes, I did meet the senior Congress leaders in Delhi to discuss the issue,” confirmed Shirodkar while speaking to Herald.
However, Shirodkar said the Congress High Command has conveyed that it would not interfere in the matter as yet.
“The High Command is seized of the issue but they do not want to interfere at this moment and have asked me to wait and watch,” he said.
Asked what would be his stand if the NCP withdraws support, he said, “Let the situation arise then we will see.”
However to a query, he replied, “our stand still remains that Mickky cannot be inducted into the cabinet.”
Meanwhile, Shirodkar informed that Hariprasad would attend the State PCC meeting scheduled for January 21.
