MARGAO: Concerned about the unauthorised construction of a retaining wall in agricultural fields in Colva for road widening purposes, social activist Judith Almeida highlighted that the area falls within the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) and called for stringent action to be taken.
Almeida asserted that they will vehemently oppose any attempts to disrupt the agricultural fields in Colva, stressing the importance of protecting the livelihoods of local farmers.
Residents and farmers were taken aback on Tuesday upon discovering the construction of a concrete wall in the agricultural lands to facilitate road expansion, despite clarifications from the Town and Country Planning (TCP) team that no permissions had been granted for such activities.
Almeida condemned construction and land filling in the CRZ lands, stating that such actions would irreversibly harm the fields.
