MARGAO: A former close aide of Churchill Alemao, Walter Pereira on Tuesday threw his hat in the ring as an Independent by filing his nomination papers for the Benaulim ZP seat.
Accompanied by Nazario Pinto and his supporters, especially tourist taxi drivers, Walter said he is contesting the election as an Independent and does not enjoy support of any Minister nor of Churchill Alemao. Incidentally, Churchill had told the media last week that two-time incumbent Benaulim ZP member Maria Rebello will receive his backing in the coming poll.
Meanwhile, former South Goa ZP Chairperson Clafacio Dias has filed his nomination papers from the neighbouring Curtorim seat.
Dias was accompanied by a number of panch members, including Curtorim Sarpanch Rosy Pais and Dy Sarpanch Simon Barretto and others.
