MARGAO: The dry waste baling at the Sonsoddo waste site has surprisingly stopped for want of strings to tie and separate the bales off the dry waste. As a result, the dry waste has begun piling up outside the site.

A visit to the Sonsoddo plant revealed that the workers were sitting idle as there were no strings to be loaded into the baling machine at Sonsoddo.

Margao Municipal Council (MMC) officials said because of pending payment for the last one month, the excavator contractor had stopped work for the last four days.

Chief Officer of MMC Agnelo Fernandes said that it will take at least four days to get the baling started. Fernandes also said the MMC had cleared the pending dues of the contractor providing excavator services. He has already cleared the bed of the plant where wet waste is treated.

Trucks arrived at the Sonsoddo on Tuesday afternoon to pick the baled dry waste which was lying at the site for the last four days. The trucks will take the bales to Lokapur village in Bagalkot District of Karnataka where the waste will be used at the cement plant.
