Want to make State self-reliant: CM

Promises to solve all pending Tenancy, Mundkarial cases before December; Rs 300 crore provided by the Central government will be used for development and infra projects

PONDA: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Friday stated that the government while celebrating the 60th year of Goa Liberation is aiming to make Goa a self-reliant State by solving issues concerning the Goans.

“The government will provide electricity, water, sanitation and basic needs to every door step. Since past many years, the farmers who filed for Tenancy and Mundkarial cases with the government were deprived of the justice they were expecting,” the Chief Minister said.

Speaking further on this issue, Sawant promised that all the pending Tenancy and Mundkarial cases will be solved before December.

He was speaking after garlanding the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, on the occasion of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti at Farmagudi Fort, in the presence of Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude, Ponda MLA Ravi Naik, Information Officer Sudir Kerkar and Historian Chandrashekhar Patil.

The Chief Minister said, “It is 60 years now, the Portuguese left Goa, but the State still depends on other States for essential commodities. But the COVID-19 pandemic has taught a lot to the Goans and the government aims to make Goa a self-reliant State.”

He said, “It is possible for the Goans to become a self-reliant State with the support of various schemes launched by the government.”

The Chief Minister cited the example of Dabal youth Varad Samant, who is earning an income of Rs 35 lakh annually by cultivating various vegetables and that he personally inspected his cultivation spread in 50,000 sq mts area.

The Chief Minister also felicitated Varad for his achievement.

“Swayampurna mitras are visiting every village panchayats to make Goa a self-reliant State. The government aims to provide basic facilities to all citizens of the State without any discrimination including place for final rites in every village of all religions,” Sawant said.

“Rs 300 crore provided by the Central government will be used for development and infra projects. The government is bringing the infrastructure project considering the need of future generations and with a vision for next 25 years,” the Chief Minister informed.

“Chhatrapati Shivaji is remembered in Goa as he made lot of effort to free Goa from the clutches of Portuguese rule and for protecting the Hindu culture in the State. It was he who made the first attempt to make the farmers self-reliant during his rule and same mantra is followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modhi with the concept Make in India and in Goa the government is following on same path by Atmanirbhar schemes,” Sawant mentioned.
