War is against plant expansion: Jayesh

Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar on Tuesday made his stand clear by stating that it is a war against the plant expansion and not against Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo.
Addressing the media at the panchayat on Tuesday, he said, “We would like to make it crystal clear that we are not objecting to the plant or against its operation if handled within the said capacity of 100 tonnes were promised by the former Chief Minister. They are adamant on the expansion and we will not allow this”. Raising the issue of leachate and garbage spillage on the roads by the trucks, he said the narrow village roads turn into accident-prone zones on account of spillage of wet waste. “The leachate spillage on the roads by trucks while transporting the waste to the plant is making it dangerous for commuters. Some of these trucks are not covered and do not have a leachate tank. At this rate they are playing with the lives of the people of Saligao. We did not stop all the trucks but the ones spilling leachate on the roads and not following norms,” the MLA said. Referring to the Waste Management Minister, Michael Lobo, he said that he should not insult the people of Saligao. “The people of Saligao are peace loving and have cooperated with the State government while setting up the plant. They have no problem with the operation of this plant but are only opposing its expansion,” he added.
