Warning issued over illegal cow slaughter at Margao

MARGAO: Members of the Hindu radical group Bajrang Dal have flexed their muscles over the slaughter of animals in Margao, threatening to hit hard if the government authorities remain mute spectators to the illegal slaughter of bovines in the city.

Barjang Dal activists raided Khareband area of the city around midnight following a tip off that animals would be slaughtered in the area on the eve of Eid festival. The activists along with a Margao police team descended at the spot only to find a bull tied to a tree; however, they did come across fresh bones of animals scattered around the area.
While complimenting the Bajrang Dal for putting a stop to the illegal slaughter of animals in Margao, Datta Sanguemkar expressed shock that the police authorities have turned a blind eye to the illegality. “At a time when animal rights activists and Bajrang Dal have campaigned against the slaughter of animals, miscreants enjoy a free hand in the animal slaughter in Margao,” he said, while issuing a warning not to underestimate the Bajrang Dal, saying they are capable of taking on the might of the violators. Sanguemkar warned the authorities to put a stop the illegal animal slaughter within two months, saying that Bajrang Dal activists will not tolerate any such illegal activity. “The authorities should keep a check on the transport of bovines in trucks to ensure that only approved animals can be taken for slaughter. If not, we will be forced to stop the animals from being taken for slaughter,” Sanguemkar warned.
