MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council is toying with the idea of bringing shops and establishments, besides others vendors and roadside fast food outlets, under the purview of the waste collection fees after a survey.
A day after city hoteliers agreed to pay the outstanding arrears pertaining to garbage collection fees, Margao Municipal Chairperson Dayanand Deulkar said the civic body is in the process of tendering a survey work for collection of information on the number of houses, traders, shops and establishments, besides vendors doing business in the commercial capital. “The survey will help the civic body not only to introduce door-to-door waste collection, but also levy fee towards the collection of waste”, he said.
Replying to a question, Deulkar agreed on the need to levy garbage collection fees on other sections of the city, other than hoteliers and residential households.
Meanwhile, around 17 hoteliers are believed to have cleared their waste collection arrears to the civic body in the last two days. The Municipality is believed to have earned revenue to the tune of Rs three-odd lakh by way of payment of arrears by the hoteliers.
