MARGAO: During the inspection carried out on Wednesday, Solid Waste Management Corporation (GSWMC) measured nearly 10,000 metric tonnes of wet waste inside the old treatment plant at Sonsoddo dump yard, which will be removed in the coming days.
Upon the request of the Margao Municipal Council a team of GSWMC visited the Sonsoddo dump yard and took stock of the wet waste lying inside the old treatment plant.
It is pertinent to note that recently one portion of the old treatment plant had collapsed as a result of piled up waste inside. Later, in a special meeting the civic body had taken a resolution to urge the GSWMC to remove the wet waste from the old plant and dump it over the legacy waste outside, so that no more damage is done to the plant.
“On Wednesday we met the Directorate of Municipal Administration, besides the Managing Director of GSWMC at Saligao, and personally deliberated on the issue of removing the wet waste from the old treatment plant”, said Lyndon Pereira, Chairperson Margao Municipal Council.
Later, a team of the GSWMC visited the plant along with chairperson, and Deepali Sawal, vice-chairperson, and engineers of the civic body.
Lyndon further informed that the team of GSWMC lead by Ganajanan Kamat inspected the plant and measured nearly 10,000 metric tonnes of wet waste.
“GSWMC has shown the willingness to help the civic body in removing the wet waste from the plant. The work will start in the next couple of days, once they get the government approval”, he said.
The civic body is also awaiting the government approval to transport 10 tonnes of waste generated in Margao to the Saligao Waste Treatment Plant.
