MARGAO: Waste Management expert, P U Asnani on Monday said that waste sorting and screening machines at the Sonsodo plant will become a reality within the next three weeks.

Asnani was in town on Monday to attend a meeting brokered by the Margao Municipal Council between representatives of Fomento Green and his company officials to iron out differences and work out amicable solutions.

“An outcome of today’s meeting was that Fomento Green has been told to install the waste and screening machines within three weeks. They have agreed to the suggestion”, Asnani told newsmen.

He agreed that there were some differences between his representative Dr Maley and Fomento Green over the question of interaction with the company. “I have made it clear that our team does not mean me alone. There are others. We have different people on different subjects. My team will support the project. They have done a great work. We are only trying to see what further improvements can be done, if any”, he said.

On the controversy over the shed structure, Asnani said Dr Maley had raised the issue with reference to the safety of workers inside. “Dr Maley’s point was that the shed is around 130 meters in length and would affect the workers in times of emergency. Fomento has agreed to make some openings and exit points along the 130 meter long structure “, he added.

Replying to a question, he said the weigh-bridge will be installed as soon as road works are completed. “We have given priority for the operation of sorting and screening machines. Weigh-bridge can come at a later stage”, he said.

Asnani said that a brief before his consultancy firm is to certify the work carried out by Fomento Green at Sonsodo before the civic body clears payments.

… says construction of landfill site is Fomento’s decision

MARGAO: The Ahmedabad-based waste management expert has said it’s purely for Fomento Green to take a call whether to construct the landfill site before or after the monsoons.

“The land fill construction will require cutting works. Heavy earth-moving machinery will have to be mobilized to carry out the works. This is one work where you cannot stop the work after starting it”, P U Asnani said, adding that Fomento Green will have to take a call whether to start the work taking into account the fast-approaching monsoons.
