MARGAO: Panchawadi United came from behind to upset Sports Welfare Club of Zaino 4-2 and book their berth in the quarter-finals of All-Goa Velim Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament organized by Sports Welfare Club of Zaino at Zaino ground, Velim, Monday. The teams were locked 2-2 at half time.
Zaino started off positively with their strikers and midfielders worked together to put the rival defenders under pressure. Their persistent forays paid off when striker Daison Cardozo scored in the first quarter.
Spurred by the success, Zaino doubled the lead with striker Samson Fernandes’ stiff grounder.
Stung by the double blows, Panchawadi regrouped and took the fight to the rival camp and pulled one back midway, through striker Manujulo Pereira.
Subsequently, Panchawadi’s Evarano D’ Costa equalized when he beat the rival goalkeeper with a clinical finish.
Crossing over, Panchawadi were a transformed side as their forwards showed urgency and striker Plantin Fernandes, who was thorn in the rival defence scored twice to seal the fate of Zaino.
