Water at Selaulim Dam ‘below’ danger level

SANGUEM:  Sanguem Deputy Collector Ajay Gaude and WRD Executive Engineer Jason Menezes visited the Selaulim Dam on Tuesday to take stock of the situation of the flowing waters at the dam.
During the visit, Menezes informed Gaude of there being no fears of the storage capacity of the Selaulim Dam as of now. Menezes informed that presently the water level at the Selaulim Dam has reached 42.66 metres. However, if the water level reaches 43.00 metres then precautionary measures would be taken, Menezes informed.
If the water level reaches 43 metres then entry of visitors to the dam and the adjoining Botanical garden will be stopped till the water level comes down, Menezes said.
Ever since the construction of the Selaulim Dam, it was only once in the year 2008 that the entry of the visitors to the Selaulim Dam was stopped after heavy rains had flooded the whole of Sanguem taluka. At that time the water level had crossed 43 metres, informed sources. The danger mark at the Selaulim Dam comes into foray only if the water level crosses 45 metres.
Meanwhile, Deputy Collector Gaude informed that there was no fear of water flowing at the Selaulim Dam as the same is within the safe level. Gaude informed that his office would keep round the clock vigil of the increasing waters at the Selaulim Dam and at other places in the Taluka.
