PONDA: Angry at lack of water supply, Bonbag-Bethora residents marched to Water Supply Division office at Dag Ponda and confronted the water engineer, on Tuesday.
The residents warned the engineer of leading a morcha if the water supply does not improve within eight days.
Mangaldas Gawde, a Bethora villager, complained to junior engineer Mahesh Gaunekar that the taps in the village are running dry since past few months and whenever water is supplied, it is very erratic and supplied at odd times.
Gawde told Gaunekar that erratic water supplied at odd times is causing server hardship to the people as they have to spend sleepless nights to collect water.
Claiming that their night phone calls to the water department office are never answered, the villagers questioned the engineer who should they contact when their taps run dry?
JE Mahesh Gaunekar assured to resolve their problem. He said due to some technical problem at Opa water treatment plant, there is low pressure in the pipeline due to which water does not reach Bethora.
However, the Bethora residents retorted saying, “If such is the case, why only Bethora has no water and how come water is reaching houses located on hills of Khadpabandh in Ponda city.”
The villagers also said that most of the staff working at PWD water supply office is from Ponda and hence there is need of transfer them to distant places for efficient working.
