PANJIM: It was action time for some while it was a nasty surprise for others. Soon after taking charge of his portfolio, the Water Resources Minister Vinod Paliencar on Wednesday, swung into action making a surprise visit to the department. And Lo! Guess what he encountered? He caught some employees napping.
The minister visited the WRD office at Porvorim at 4.00 pm much to the surprise of the staff as some employees were taking an afternoon nap and many others “missing” from the department.
Two Junior Engineers – Vasant Madkaikar, Shailesh Phaldesai one LDC Martinho Fernandes and work assistant Harsh Kambli were said to be absent from duty without prior permission.
These four employees have been issued memo to explain their absence without authorisation.
Speaking to Herald, Paliencar said that such surprise checks will continue.
“Government employees are there to serve the common man. I will not tolerate any indiscipline in my department,” he said.
Paliencar has also asked for a detailed report on the works underway of the Water Resources department.
“I have asked for an inquiry into all works undertaken by the WRD. I will get the report soon from the officials,” he said.
Meanwhile, on the first day after taking charge, many ministers have begun work. They held meetings with officials.
