Mandrekar along with Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte visited the pond near the police quarters on Thursday and had a detailed discussion with WRD Chief Engineer Sandeep Nadkarni, PWD Chief Engineer DJS Borker, PWD Executive Engineer V M R Chavan and others engineers about development of the pond into lake and the setting up of a mini water filtration plant of 10 MLD capacity by the side of the lake.
Since there is no water storage area near the pond, it was decided to deepen the pond and bring in the Tillari water by a separate pipeline. The water would then be stored in the lake and be used for the water filtration plant.
Later speaking to Herald, Khaunte said the pond near police quarters has become a nuisance for the residents. “It has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. It has been decided to convert this pond into a beautiful lake with a rustic look,” informed Khaunte.
“The water required for the lake will be supplied from Tillari by a separate pipeline and a mini filtration plant of 10 MLD capacity will be set up by the side of the lake. The water after filtration will be supplied to the residents of Porvorim. Thus, the twin objectives of beautiful lake and mini water filtration plant will be achieved,” said Khaunte.
