VASCO: Many places in Vasco were found water logged after the first rains, exposing the failure of the Mormugao municipality in carrying out proper pre-monsoon works.
During a recent special council meeting on pre-monsoon works, the municipality decided that the pending works such as cleaning of drains, desilting of nullhas, wells and trimming of bushes would be completed before the arrival of the monsoon. Chairman Kritesh Gaunkar had even allotted 500 cement slabs to each ward. But all these talks seemed to have gone down the drains.
Water logging was witnessed on Tuesday night at Baina, KTC bus stand, Maimolem, near El Monte and, Rumdatali areas.
Commuters had to be cautious as the streetlights were also not functioning along this stretch.
Some commuters waiting for bus said that the water logging was due to the choked drains. “Most of the drains are filled with mud, silt, plastic waste and what not. Because of this water gets blocked,” a commuter said.
