Last night’s heavy rains should serve as an eye opener to the Margao Municipal Council, as work of the desilting of the water nullahs has not reached the half-way mark, raising questions over the late commencement of the work.
As the Rawanfond area witnessed water logging till Monday morning following last night’s heavy showers, apprehensions are raised whether the ongoing desilting work would be completed on time and well before the onset of the monsoons.
When contacted, MMC Chairperson Savio Coutinho said the water logging at Rawanfond was not on account of the delay in desilting the water nullah, but more due to the design of the storm water drain by the government agency.
He said three teams of the Water Resources Department are presently carrying out the desilting work to ensure the entire work is completed in all respects before the monsoons.
A confident Coutinho said work on the desilting of all the water nullahs can be completed within the next few days, adding that the pre-monsoon showers should not pose any threat of flooding or water logging in the city.
