Water pipeline bursts, leaves Mapusa Market inundated

MAPUSA: The Mapusa Municipal Market experienced water logging due to the rupture of a water pipeline in the market area. This incident not only resulted in the wastage of hundreds of gallons of water but also caused significant inconvenience for both vendors and visitors to the market.

“Early Saturday morning, a water pipeline broke near Sadanand Cold Drink shop. The entire market was flooded. The water entered the shops and destroyed the fruits and vegetables of the vendors who sit on the market footpaths. If this is happening when the pipeline breaks, what will happen during the monsoon? If it rains the entire market will be flooded. I’m requesting the Mapusa Municipality to clean the gutters before they tar the roads,” a senior citizen stated.

“The incident must have occurred before 6.30am, since one vendor stated that she had come at 6.45am and the market was already flooded. The pipeline may have been damaged due to the ongoing work. After I came to open my shop I phoned the PWD. Only after that the water supply was stopped. We have to assess the damage only after we open the shops,” one shop keeper stated.
