MARGAO: Water supply to Salcete taluka was finally restored on Sunday evening, while the Port Town of Vasco will receive water in the wee hours of Monday.
PWD Executive Engineer, S Paranjapee told Herald that repair work on the ruptured Selaulim water pipeline at Raia was finally completed in all respects on Sunday morning. “While work was going on at Raia to repair the line, simultaneously water was released from Selaulim since it take nearly eight hours for the water to reach Margao”, he said.
Replying to a question, he said that water from the Selaulim line reached Margao at 1 pm, while Verna station received water from the pipeline at around 4 pm. “Pumping operations at the Verna station has begun and people of Vasco would receive water on early Monday morning”, he said.
He said though the pipeline at Raia only suffered a problem at the joints after a crane hit the pipeline, considerable time was consumed in positioning the pipe as a matter of abundant precaution. A group of workers under the supervision of Assistant Engineer Srikhant Gaonkar and technical assistant Shetkhar worked overnight to restore the damaged pipeline.
In the absence of water from the Selaulim pipeline, households turned to time-testing drinking water wells for a bucket of water on Sunday.
