MARGAO: Heavy leakage of water pipeline at Sonsodo area has resulted in restricted water supply to Cuncolim and surrounding area and also Salcete to some extent. The problem was rectified by evening and regular supply of water begun by midnight.
The 1200 MM diameter old PSC line that passes through Sonsodo area had begun leaking from a joint on Monday. The leakage was detected but by the time it was fixed on Tuesday, the leakage went out of hand spilling lot of water out. The Public Works Department water supply started work in the afternoon.
The Assistant Engineer of Water Supply Anant Gaonkar said that they would complete the work of the pipeline quickly.
“Cuncolim, Quepem and Fatorpa were highly affected by the work and the areas of Salcete were moderately affected due to the failure. However, the shortage of supply of water was rectified by late night,” Gaonkar said. The water supply made up for the shortage by utilising the 100 MLD water plant which they said was working full swing.
