MARGAO: Farmers under the banner of Colva Agricultural Tenants Association have been left high and dry after unknown persons release water from the tollem (water body) which was stored for paddy cultivation.
Association Chairman Elizabeth Rodrigeus told the media that the water was being stored in the water body since September to irrigate the adjoining fields. He, however, lamented that some unknown miscreants have breached the water body a day ago, draining water from the body, leaving the farmers high and dry.
“We had spent a good deal of time and money on building the bundh. But, we are shocked that miscreants have released the water by opening the gate of the water body,” he said, while demanding that the government intervene and help the beleaguered farmers.
Rodrigues also disclosed plans to lodge a complaint with the Colva police to investigate and initiate necessary action against the miscreants involved in the cowardly act.
