PANJIM: Almost a year after implementing the free water supply scheme to 60 per cent of the state’s domestic consumers, the Public Works Department (PWD) increased the water tariff for all categories of consumers by five per cent with effect from October 1.
PWD Principal Chief Engineer Uttam Parsekar issued a notification on September 30.
Parsekar said that as per the government’s decision in 2020, the water supply tariff was to be increased by 5 per cent at the beginning of each financial year and the same was not implemented to date.
“Now, therefore it is decided that the water supply tariff be increased by 5 per cent with effect from October 1, 2022, and thereafter at the beginning of each financial year,” the notification stated.
The State government in September last year had implemented the scheme, wherein all individual domestic consumers whose monthly consumption is less than 16 m3 (cubic metre) will receive a ‘zero water bill’.
