PONDA: Around 30 houses in Vaidhyanagar, Bethora, have been grappling with a month-long water crisis, compelling residents to rely on private tanker water for essential tasks. The water shortage poses a heightened concern as the tourism season peaks. Frustrated locals have satirically suggested that the government rename its water supply policy from ‘Har Ghar Jal’ to ‘Har Ghar Tanker’, instead.
Expressing discontent over the inadequate water supply, residents, particularly women, approached officials from the Public Health Engineering department at Daag, Ponda. The locals then notified Panch Durgaprasad Vaidhya, who promptly arranged for tanker deliveries to meet the immediate needs of the community.
Women in the area conveyed their frustration, revealing that they receive water for only four months a year, during the monsoon. For the remaining eight months, they either depend on tankers or reach out to nearby relatives for assistance.
Recalling a similar situation two years ago in nearby Dattagad, the residents faced a dengue outbreak due to water storage practices. Ponda Primary Health Centre officials and doctors controlled the situation. Concerns are now rising that Vaidhyanagar might face a similar fate if necessary precautions are not taken promptly.
