Waterlogged Seraulim subway poses nuisance to motorists

MARGAO: Incessant rains for the last two days flooded the Seraulim  subway once again causing causing difficulties for motorists, travellers and residents using the underpass. Waterlogging of the Seraulim subway has been the order of the day here with locals stating that water wends its way through the storm water nullah.

The subway is a contentious issue and is always is  the news due to flooding during the rains. Constant pleas by residents to the railways to address the drainage issues here have fallen on deaf ears and as result the area keeps getting flooded. Residents here have hit out at the authorities for taking them for granted.

Furthermore, after the spell of torrential rains on Monday, roads in the vicinity, such as the Western bypass road and the area in Seraulim that is close to the wholesale fishmarket were inundated with water too.

Citizens slammed the government for failing to pay heed to their suggestions regarding the Western bypass construction, especially at Benaulim, which they felt is the reason why water is stagnating at low-lying areas and not flowing out as it used

to in the past. Elsewhere, other places in Salcete had water logging issues. The Morning star bakery in Fatorda was blocked with high water levels , while water was leaking from the ceiling of the South Goa District Hospital in Fatorda.

There were problems in Navelim too with certain roads being water logged, leading to former Aquem Sarpanch Siddhesh Bhagat questioning why the authorities had not taken due cognisance of this issue prior to the flooding that is taking place now.
