PANJIM: Trouble for activist Tara Kerkar, presently in police custody over kidnapping charge, does not seem to end as the Department of Women and Child Development has issued her a show cause notice for alleging irregularities in protective home.
In a video released on social media last week, Kerkar had alleged that the State-run Protective Home at Merces has indulged in several irregularities.
WCD Director Deepali Naik on Tuesday issued notice to her seeking her presence within seven days. The notice states that Kerkar has uttered derogatory remarks against the Home at Merces in a video circulated on social media, “thus causing damage to the image and reputation to the institution established for protection and rehabilitation of the victim of commercial sexual exploitation.”
“You are requested to be present at this office within seven days of receipt of this letter with the proof of allegations made by you against State-run Protective Home, Merces, in the video circulated on social media failing which action will be initiated against you for defaming the institution without any proof,” it adds.
Kerkar is presently in the custody of the police for allegedly kidnapping a month-old baby. Her bail application was heard before the Children’s Court on Wednesday, and order will be pronounced on Thursday.
As per the complaint filed with Vasco Police, the mother of the kidnapped son claimed that she was living at Kerkar’s house as she has been helpless.
During her stay, Kerkar has been forcing the mother to sell her child, which she had refused.
Last Saturday, Kerkar allegedly locked the mother, sold the baby to unknown person and asked her to leave the house.
