We are not demoralised by the defeat: GSM

PANJIM: GSM has conceded that they do not have a party setup in the capital which is one of the reasons for their drubbing in the Panjim by-poll where their candidate Subhash Velingkar received a meagre 516 votes.
“I personally need to introspect and study why this happened. This has surprised and shocked me too. We have realised that goodwill not necessarily translate into votes, ” he added.
GSM’s core committee will now meet on May 26.
Addressing media, he said Ponjekars had chosen immorality over ethics and morals. He also attributed GSM lack of a strong party setup as one of the reasons.
“Immortality has been endorsed in these elections. People can no further question immortality and unethical behaviour in the society. We are hurt due to this but will continue this long drawn battle against unethical politics”, he added. Stating that GSM could not match the money power apart from the musclepower used in the elections, he said those elected in the Assembly bypolls have come to power for business.
Velingkar said “GSM’s way is different from the current political model. Though we have suffered in the electoral politics, we are not frustrated and demoralised due to the defeat.”
He added that GSM will strengthen its ground level units and also begin to prepare for the forthcoming municipal and panchayat elections.
