MARGAO: Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) drivers and conductors have expressed extreme fear and anxiety over the lack of proper facilities to the corporation’s frontline warriors against the COVID-19 pandemic in the State.
Expressing their fear, they said, “Working without safety apparatus like gloves and masks, we have already prepared our deathbed and may even take our families along with us, if we are not kept safe from the COVID-19 pandemic”.
They said “Our employers have not provided proper sanitisation, safety apparatus or the immunity boosting supplements to us. Several KTC employees have been tested positive and despite all the requests there are no efforts to alleviate our fears and troubles while on duty.”
The KTC drivers and conductors are presently working as frontline warriors against the global pandemic.
However, these frontline warriors said they are attending duty everyday like it is their last.
When media persons asked some staffers outside the Margao depot about their operations, Tushar Shirodkar, a driver said, “We have no option. We have to work in whatever condition. We have met the management and requested them for better safety”.
“We are supporting the Government and KTC always, but please take steps to make our work safe,” he added.
